NWU: Partner of the Palladium Global Science Award

Published on 8 April 2025

North-West University (NWU) is a leading university located in South Africa with over 56,000 students across its three campuses. Guided by its strategic vision to “discover new frontiers and opportunities that benefit society”, NWU is now evolving into a more research-intensive institution.

This shift prioritises impactful research, global partnerships and innovation that responds to societal needs. NWU is enhancing its research capacity across its eight faculties by attracting best-in-class research and innovation talent and securing greater funding for projects with national and global relevance.

The university’s Research Support Office plays a key role in identifying research with the potential for intellectual property protection and commercialisation. By connecting researchers with industry partners and investors, NWU ensures its innovations make a tangible difference beyond academia.

Through this and other strategic initiatives, NWU continues to build a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and community engagement, empowering students, advancing knowledge and making a lasting impact on society.

“Our focus areas of research include medicine, energy security and green hydrogen for Southern Africa – industries where palladium could be effectively applied. As a partner, we are glad to support the Palladium Global Science Award and cutting-edge research connected to applications of palladium,” said Prof Dmitri Bessarabov, Direct of the HySA Infrastructure Center of Competence at NWU.
